Center for the Health of Vulnerable Populations

The mission of the Center for the Health of Vulnerable Populations (CHVP)is to improve the knowledge of health disparities in vulnerable populations through research, collaboration and education. • To foster collaborative research on the health of vulnerable populations within the School, across the University and state, and involving community and international partners.
  • To disseminate research-based information on vulnerable populations’ health and health needs to teachers, researchers, business leaders, health care providers, policy makers, the public and the international community.
  • To develop knowledge through research that contributes to better health, fewer health disparities and improved health care for vulnerable populations.

The UNCG, GHA, Well-Spring Partnership

The UNCG, GHA, Well-Spring Partnership

For over twenty years, the UNCG School of Nursing Health Centers have been providing clinical educational opportunities through service, research and scholarship for graduate and undergraduate students in preparation for professional nursing practice within a global community. As part of the School of Nursing’s commitment to serve the greater community, the Health Centers provide health education, wellness screenings and health information that is holistic and culturally sensitive to an underserved population, primarily older adults.

The centers are housed within the Department of Community Practice and work with the Center for the Health of Vulnerable Populations. All students are precepted by the School of Nursing’s faculty.

The Health Centers work in partnership with:

Well-Spring Retirement Community
Greensboro Housing Authority
School of Nursing – Geriatrics Nursing Clinics Fund
UNCG Center for the Health of Vulnerable Population

Well-Spring Retirement Community has generously provided funding to expand the outreach programs being offered at the Health Centers in the Greensboro Housing Authority residential facilities: Gateway Plaza, Hall Towers, Hampton Homes and Stoneridge.

The Health Centers provide basic health programs such as blood sugar, blood pressure checks, and UNCG-coordinated programs such as friendship groups, cholesterol screenings, health fairs as well as ways for the residents to better use the healthcare system and community resources.

Tina Akers-Brown, Executive Director. Greensboro Housing Authority, says, “The addition of Well-Spring to our partnership with UNCG enhances the health disparity of housing authority residents and improves their quality of life.”
